There are undergraduate programs in the School of Civil Engineering, including Civil Engineering, Safety Engineering, Exploration Technology and Engineering, Surveying Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Road Bridge and River-crossing Engineering, Geological Engineering and Urban Underground Space Engineering. There are about 3000 undergraduate students and 300 graduate students. The School has one first-level discipline master program (Civil Engineering), four second-level discipline master programs (Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Disaster Prevention and Reduction Engineering, and Bridge and Tunnel Engineering), and one authorized engineering master program in Architecture and Civil Engineering. The Civil Engineering program was awarded as the Demonstration Major of Educational Reform in Anhui Province in 2003, the National Key Profession Construction Point in 2008. In 2007 and 2012, it passed the National Tertiary Education Civil Engineering Professional Evaluation by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. In 2012, the Ministry of Education identified the Civil Engineering program as the Experimental Major of the Second Batch of “the Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers”. In 2009, the Discipline of Civil Engineering was listed as the Construction Discipline of Doctoral Degree Granting in Anhui Province. In 2017, it was awarded as the First-class Discipline Rewards and Subsidies Funding of Provincial University in Anhui Province.
At present, there are 139 full-time teachers in the School, including 24 full professors and 32 master supervisors. Among them, there is one National Outstanding Teacher, four Anhui Outstanding Teachers, one National Top-notch Talent, one National Outstanding Worker; one National Model Teacher, three Academic and Technical Leaders of Anhui Province, two training targets of the Academic and Technical Leader of Anhui Province, one Architectural Survey and Design Master of Anhui Province and two enjoy special allowances from the State Council and Anhui Provincial Government. In addition, there is one national teaching team, two provincial teaching teams and one provincial science and technology innovation team in the School.
The School of Civil Engineering builds National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Building Health Monitoring and Disaster Prevention Technology and Anhui Key Laboratory of Building Structure and Underground Engineering. The college consists of four departments: Architectural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Road and Bridge Engineering, Safety Geomatics Engineering, and contain one Engineering Mechanics teaching and research office, and one Civil engineering comprehensive experimental center.
The School of Civil Engineering has set up relationships of cooperation and exchange with dozens of universities and research institutions at home and abroad including the Dresden University of Technology (Germany), Illinois Institute of Technology (America), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Science and Technology of China and Tongji University, etc. The School of Civil Engineering also makes use of its professional advantages to take an active part in local economic construction activities, and undertake extensive work such as engineering survey, mapping, design, testing, reinforcement, and construction technology research and development, and solve many problems in practical engineering. The School of Civil Engineering is widely praised by all circles of the society.
In recent years, the School of Civil Engineering has hosted 158 vertical and horizontal projects such as the National Technology Support programs, National Natural Science Foundation of China programs, with research funds more than 45 million yuan. The college has obtained 47 research rewards in science and technology and 20 patents, including 3 second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 1 first prize, 5 second prizes, and 4 third prizes of Provincial Science and Technology Progress, 1 Golden Award of Chinese Patent; 1 second prize of the National Teaching Achievement, 1 grand prize, 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes, and 3 third prizes o of the Provincial Teaching Achievement. In this college, more than 650 papers have been published, among which more than 150 papers were included in SCI and EI. Moreover, it has 1 National Quality Course and 9 Provincial Quality Courses, and has published 3 monographs and 26 provincial planning teaching materials.
Developments are the top priority of strengthening the school. The School of Civil Engineering will insist on the principle of “Developing the University through Quality Education and Strengthening the University through Academic Research Abilities”, and will persist in the Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of “Three Represents”, the Scientific Outlook on Development, and the Thought of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era led by President Xi Jinping as the guidance, emancipate the mind, deepened reform in an all-round way, take innovative, accelerate development, and enhance the quality of teaching and talent cultivation. It is expected to develop the School of Civil Engineering to be an engineering college with vivid characteristics and greater impact in China.
